The Tuffpak concept is a new way to travel with guns. Instead of carrying your gun in a gun case, that has no room for any other items, carry it in a Tuffpak instead. The Tuffpak has room for all your other shooting gear and it is surprising what can be fitted in there. The photograph opposite shows typical items of shooting gear that you might take with you. The green wellies are always something nice to have but no one would ever consider packing them in a suitcase due to room and weight. All of this went into the Tuffpak Compact easily but I realised that I could have got more in there with a bit more thought in the packing. The gunslip I selected is quite a thick padded one and that takes up probably more room than anything else. Your gun is packed in two pieces standing vertically so that it is easily removed for airport security checks without unpacking the whole case. The other items in the case protect the gun from damage in transit and save you taking up the weight allowance in your suitcase.
 
The Tuffpak itself is made of cross bonded polyethylene and is guaranteed unbreakable for the life of the case. The lock is one of the circular security locks and there is no way you will get into a Tuffpak without power tools. All cases are keyed differently and each case comes with two keys. We keep a third key here for two reasons. Firstly we can provide you with an immediate replacement if you should loose the key. Secondly, you can use the case to ship your gun in for service by just packing the gun, locking the case and handing it to TNT or Parcelforce. We keep a record of your key number here so you only have to let us know it is on the way.
 
Two versions are available, the one opposite which takes a gun taken down into two parts with barrel length up to 32" and there is room for extended chokes, and the longer case for rifles and guns that cannot be taken down. This takes overall internal length of up to 52". To make life easier using the longer case Tuffpak make a Tuffsack that is designed to hold all your other gear and still be easily accessible.
 
We have looked into the Sports Equipment allowance for various airlines and see that most offer between 20kg and 35kg. Some with a small extra charge and others with no charge. All the above items packed into the Tuffpak came in at 20kg. You need to check with your airline but no sense in paying for your gear in a suitcase when you can Tuffpak it.
 
You can of course put more than one gun into a Tuffpak and we can get up to five in the compact. In the large model we have many times had 8 guns, all in covers. The concept is more to be able to carry other equipment but nice to know you can get more guns in if needed.
 
Lastly, although perfect for airline travel, the Tuffpak is also perfect for the weekend away when staying in a hotel. It doesn't look like a gun case and you can just wheel it in like any other luggage. If you pack a bike security lock you can fasten it to the radiator in the hotel room by passing the cord through the vertical moulded handling bars. If there are two of you traveling together, put both guns in one case, fill it up with your shooting gear off you go.
